In 2026, the question isn’t just can you rank, but can you be found across the AI ecosystem? The 6-month timeline is the industry gold standard, but the type of results you see in that window has changed drastically.
Why the 6-Month Rule Just Got an Upgrade
If you’re starting a digital marketing journey today, you likely have one question: How long until I see a return on my investment?
Historically, the answer has always been you will start to see results in 4 to 6 months. But in 2026, the search landscape has shifted. With the rise of AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), the timeline hasn’t just changed-the definition of “results” has.
The short answer? Yes, you can see meaningful results in 6 months. In fact, because of how AI discovers information, you might see “visibility” faster than ever, even if “clicks” take a little longer to compound.
The 2026 Traction Timeline: What to Expect
In the past, you waited 6 months just to see your name on Page 1. In 2026, we track a multi-layered path to success:
Months 1-2: The Foundational Pulse
The first 60 days are about Technical SEO and Indexing.
- The Goal: Ensure Google and AI crawlers (like GPTBot) can actually read your site.
- The Result: You’ll start seeing your “Impressions” rise in Search Console. Your brand begins to appear in “People Also Ask” boxes and long-tail searches.
Months 3 – 4: The AI Citation Phase (GEO/AEO)
This is where 2026 differs from the old days. Because AI models like Gemini and ChatGPT look for “Entity Authority,” our optimization starts to pay off here.
- The Goal: Get cited in AI Search Overviews.
- The Result: You might not be #1 in the blue links yet, but you start appearing as a cited source in generative summaries. This is AEO gold – users see your brand as the expert answer before they even scroll down.
Months 5-6: The Conversion Compound
By month six, the Flywheel Effect kicks in.
- The Goal: Dominating high-intent keywords and Share of Model (how often AI recommends you).
- The Result: Your organic traffic stabilizes and, more importantly, the quality of that traffic increases. Since AI has already “vetted” you to the user, the visitors hitting your site are further down the sales funnel and ready to buy.
Why 6 Months is the Sweet Spot for 2026
You might wonder: If AI is so fast, why does it still take 6 months?
- The Trust Factor: Search engines and AI models are more cautious than ever. They need to see a consistent pattern of high-quality, human-centric content before they fully trust you as an authority.
- The Data Loop: It takes time for AI models to recrawl, synthesize, and update their knowledge bases with your information.
- Competitive Stability: Anyone can spike for a week. A 6-month strategy ensures your rankings and citations stay there when your competitors try to pivot.
How LM Marketing Accelerates the Process
At LM, we don’t just wait for 6 months. We use a three-pronged attack to get you results faster:
- Immediate Technical Fixes: We clear the crawling debt that holds most sites back.

- Entity Building: We link your brand to trusted industry sources, signaling to AI that you are a Known Entity in your field.
The Bottom Line
In 2026, SEO is no longer a set it and forget it project. It is an ongoing race for Share of Voice. While 6 months is where the real ROI begins to show, the work we do in the first 30 days sets the stage for whether you’ll be a leader or a follower in the AI era.
